Grupo Frutas IRU

In 1998, Grupo Frutas Iru joined the group established in 1993 through a joint venture between COPLACA and FYFFES.

Thanks to this alliance, Grupo Frutas Iru, under the trade name Eurobanan Logística Norte, S.L., became part of the largest banana producer in the European Union, namely, COPLACA (Cooperativa Platanera de Canarias), the banana-producing cooperative of the Canary Islands, made up of 4,600 farmers in Tenerife, La Palma, Gran Canaria, El Hierro, and La Gomera.

Currently, we have 13 chambers equipped with state-of-the-art technology for banana ripening and storage process follow-up and control. The technology available, adding up to the great experience of our team of professional ripeners, results in top-quality end products.

Supplying the most important retail chains, we are leaders in banana distribution and sale in Northern Spain.

More about Canary bananas

They say that good things come in small packages. The saying applies here, for bananas from the Canaries have three distinctive features: they are bright yellow, they have a sweet yet strong flavour, and they are small.

There is one more difference, and it has to be made clear: Strictly speaking, only Canary bananas are bananas. The rest are plantains.

Bananas and plantains undergo different ripening processes, they taste different and feel different, and they are put to different culinary uses. Bananas, for instance, are so sweet they are eaten as a staple food, whereas plantains are usually fried, mashed, or cooked. Besides being rich in nutrients, bananas are just good, meaning they are delicious. And Canary bananas are unique.
